Adult Education
For human beings striving to find their way to new forms of living and working, it is essential to have methods of training that can provide an insight into spiritual development of the individual, humanity and the earth. All the disciplines outlined in this website have recognised training centres and in addition there are several special training courses and colleges.
Emerson College
Emerson College, founded in 1962, is a centre for adult education, training and research in anthroposophy and the work of Rudolf Steiner. Students and staff come from over thirty different countries each year, bringing with them cultural and linguistic diversity which creates a rich community life. This supports the work of the full time courses.
Alongside these full time courses, the college offers weekend short courses from October to May each year and summer courses every July and August. These provide introductions and intensive work in subjects that are similar to those in the full time education.
The creative and open nature of our approach to adult education combined with the social and cultural life of the college have given many former students the skills and enthusiasm to found important initiatives in areas such as Waldorf Education, the social sphere, the environment and the arts.
The college sits in the Sussex countryside with Tablehurst Biodynamic Community Farm next door and Ashdown Forest just opposite the valley. It is about halfway between London and Brighton, conveniently close to Gatwick Airport.
